Bubba and Jed: Two Dogs Spared Despite Breed Bias

In a quiet Swampscott neighborhood where pit bulls were frowned upon, two dogs—Bubba and Jed—found themselves at the center of a dangerous dog case. A faulty gate had failed, allowing them to get loose. They ran toward a neighbor walking their terrier, and chaos ensued.  The neighbor and their dog were injured, and the town quickly labeled Bubba and Jed as “dangerous.”  

The neighborhood was unforgiving. Stories of the incident were exaggerated, stoking fears and biases. The dogs’ owners were devastated but determined to fight for their lives. They called Boston Dog Lawyers for help. 

We built a strong defense, focusing on the facts: the incident did not last the 15 minutes some claimed, and the dogs had no history of aggression. Animal behaviorists confirmed they weren’t dangerous, and their owners had taken immediate steps to secure their property with a fortress-like enclosure.  

The hardest part wasn’t proving Bubba and Jed’s innocence—it was overcoming the inherent bias against their breed. We urged the Swampscott board to make a decision based on fairness, not fear.  

In the end, Bubba and Jed were spared.  

This case wasn’t just about these dogs. It was about challenging assumptions and fighting for fairness–and getting the town board to get to the right decision the right way.
