Diesel: Returned to His Owner After a Two-Day Trial
A woman called our office after splitting with her partner, who was keeping her dog, Diesel. He warned her that if she hired a lawyer, she’d never see Diesel again–and promised she’d be crying after the trial. But after two days of testimony, he got one thing right: my client did cry—tears of joy when the court ruled in her favor, and Diesel was returned to her.
Pet custody cases are complex, often requiring detailed evidence like receipts, affidavits, and photos. At our firm, we also strategize to push legal boundaries, advocating for the best interests of pets to set precedents for future cases. We asked the court to consider the best interests of the dog and, although the court outwardly rejected this argument, it was still heard – a small step toward elevating the legal standing of our clients’ beloved pets.
