What 2025 Taught Us About Fighting for Pet Owners

As we close out the year, we always ask one question...

Hear directly from Boston Dog Lawyers' founder Jeremy Cohen as he reflects on 2025, the progress made and what’s ahead for pet owners.

Are we better today than we were a year ago?

This year, the answer is yes.

This past year brought meaningful progress for pet owners, including steps toward courts considering what’s in the best interest of the pet in certain cases. It also reminded us that real change doesn’t happen overnight—it happens because pet owners are willing to stand up, even when the law hasn’t fully caught up yet.

This year was also deeply personal. It’s our first holiday season without our Maisey, whose spirit continues to guide why we do this work. Her memory reinforces our commitment to advocating for pets as family, and for the people who love them.

We’re grateful to the clients who trusted us, the team that shows up every day with compassion and skill and the broader pet community that supports accountability, education and safer practices across the pet world.

We’ll always fight when necessary. But today, our role has grown beyond litigation alone. We’re also educators—working to improve systems, raise standards, and help ensure that fewer pet owners have to face the same struggles in the future.

As we look ahead to 2026, we remain committed to moving pet owner rights forward, one case—and one courageous client—at a time.
